FAQ

Do you give lessons in peoples' Homes?

No. I used to, but I was losing too much time traveling which made it hard to accommodate all of the students who wanted to study with me. In addition, I also felt that the in-home lessons were less productive than those taught at my studio. I use various instruments, props, equipment and materials to enhance my lessons and it's just not possible to carry all of these things to people's homes. I also find that in their homes, students are easily distracted by background noise, siblings, playdates, toys, devices, games, etc. At my studio, I can provide an environment that allows students to focus on one thing...the music lesson.

Is a keyboard okay for at-home Practice?

No. Keyboards don't have weighted keys, dynamic capability or the correct number of keys (88). Students who practice on keyboards don't develop proper finger stregnth and struggle to play the acoustic piano during their lessons. Keyboards also lack the gratifying sound and feel of an acoustic piano which greatly diminishes the playing experience.

If an acoustic piano isn't a practical choice for your family, a digital piano is a good alternative. Digital pianos have 88 weighted keys, dynamic capability and are generally smaller and less expensive than acoustic pianos.

Do You require that students practice?

Yes. Students don't make much progress if they don't practice between lessons. Then, they end up having the same lesson over and over again which leads to boredom and a loss of interest. I have a practice incentive program where students earn and track practice points. This is a great way to motivate students and keep parents in the loop. I even give prizes!

DO YOU HOLD STUDENT RECITALS?

Yes. I have a fall and a spring recital each year. The goal for these programs is to provide students with positive performance experiences that focus on preparation rather than perfection.
